Helene began her journey in the field of mental health and substance abuse working at the Orange County Department of Education (ACCESS program), as on-site counselor at continuation schools in Newport and Costa Mesa for at risk adolescents dealing with issues including trauma, substance abuse, self-mutilation and other impulse control disorders Next on her journey, Helene had the privilege of working for the Orange County Health Care Agency Behavioral Health Services (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services/Prevention). These programs and services include curriculum creation, staff trainings, individual, couples and family interventions, parenting workshops, children education programs for families impacted by mental health disorders and substance abuse. Counselor, group facilitator and psycho-education teacher at Los Pinos (now closed), Juvenile Hall, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, Continuation High Schools, District High Schools, and Orangewood Children’s Home. Clinical Supervisor for MFT Interns and ASW individuals and Chairperson for OCSAPN (Orange County Substance Abuse Prevention Network). Helene’s private practice from 2006 to 2014 and then again in 2019 to 2022, specializing in individual and family therapy, families impacted by substance abuse and mental health issues, anxiety/depression/anger reduction with the use of hypnotherapy techniques and guided imagery. To give back Helene volunteered at Give an Hour, pro bono, working with families of deployed soldiers. Her clinical supervision work included working with adults impacted by substance abuse disorders at Phoenix House. Helene’s experience in private residential, PHP and IOP programs included Balboa Horizons Treatment Facility in Newport Beach, Anchored Recovery Community (also in the role of Clinical Supervisor) and A Mission for Michael as group therapy facilitator.
