This place changed my life. Everyone there was so nice and accommodating. They selflessly put their clients’ health and recovery as the top priority and make themselves available round the clock to help any way that they can. I couldn’t think of a more perfect setting to start changing your life for the better. So if you want the tools to help live a happier, more fulfilling life then Capo by the Sea is a step in the right direction.

I recommend Capo By The Sea as they truly save lives . What they do and how they do it works. This is a drug free environment and treatment center that rebuilds and reshapes sons and daughters futures that previously had none and no hope of a life without drugs. Thank you Capo By The Sea. I owe you everything. I no longer have to plan my child’s funeral.

Capo by the sea has changed my life in more ways than one. They never gave up on me and always made my needs a priority. They gave me key life skills that have helped me in ways I never imagined when it comes to my road to recovery. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling and needs a way out of a life on any substances. Jeff Lazaro especially was there and is a great friend to this day. God bless and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

The therapist and the counselors are amazing along with all of the office staff. Everyone truly cares for you and is willing to go out of their way to help you in any way they can. These are some of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. I would recommend Capo by the Sea to anyone who is in need of therapy or counseling. The facility is nice and clean and the house I stayed in was beautiful. The food is so good, I miss that place already. There are not enough good things I could say about this place. This place is amazing, you will not regret going there.

This is by far the best rehab in the United States.

It was an incredible experience, not just for me but also for my husband, if I may speak on his behalf. We went there all the way across the country from NY. The place was beautiful and situated in a great neighborhood in Capistrano. The staff members became like family and they treated us with complete care and compassion. Their model for recovery is unique in that they don’t make one feel as if they’re bad or damaged, but with hope. And we never felt locked down, since after we detoxed we could go for a stroll around the neighborhood. The wonderful part for me was that I could cook my favorite recipes, and I loved doing it for the other 4 people in the house. Then we sat down to dinner and enjoyed and talked about anything. We usually discussed movies we’d watched or plans for a game night…Family Feud was my pick of games, we laughed a lot and got to know one another in the process. The therapists were incredibly professional and kind. And if you don’t feel comfortable with one you can switch to another. My favorites were Terry and Federico. My husband hadn’t realized he had developed a drinking problem but over the years he finally accepted he had a problem when it started to affect his health. And for the first time he was taking a deep look into issues he had suppressed for a long time. The accommodations were wonderful, and the cleaning crew came once a week and cleaned the house very diligently. I would recommend CAPO to anyone struggling with addiction, it has given us a whole new perspective on life and has saved our marriage in the process. We love them all, especially Jeff who is a former New Yorker and very cool. Norma M.

The staff is amazing. Addie and Rob made sure every client was taken care of, listened to me when I struggled and helped as best they could. I can’t say enough about those two, they’re really awesome. And the house was beautiful, the counselors and therapists caring and knowledgeable. Jeff is possibly the single most hardworking individual I have ever met. Anytime a client needed help, he was there. Really a great place to go and find sobriety and serenity. Truly grateful for my time there.

35 years ago my mother found it and I agreed to go at the age of 17, but was allowed to stay with the adult ward. I stayed for 4 months. I needed the time. It was on a private hill overlooking Dana Point. I was in private counseling, group therapy, AA, NA, CA, Al-anon. Those events and counselors changed my life and saved it. I remember Joe Grady. I can still hear his distinctive, and kind voice with fondness.

My best friend, my soulmate, got on a plane from Syracuse, NY to this treatment center well over a year ago. Not only has my piece of mind returned but my brother gained his life. I will always, always be in debt to Capo. My family owes you more than I can ever give. Xo

I am beyond grateful for Capo by the Sea. From the time I made the decision to call them to get help, they have gone above and beyond to make my recovery possible, exciting, and successful. They have wonderful group facilitators that keep a constant theme of recovery, while creating a safe environment for clients to open up in group therapy. We get taken to many excellent 12-step meetings; the recovery in this area is over the top amazing. The houses clients live in are beautiful, beyond what words can say, and very comfortable, homey, and lively. Overall, this program has changed my life forever for the better. I came to treatment with very little hope for a future for myself. Capo has been patient, kind, and loving to me, at a time when I was none of those things to myself. The entire staff, in more ways than I can count, is a significant part of the success in my recovery. Jacqueline, Director of Detox and house manager for the girl’s house, is without a doubt the most inspirational woman I know. What she has done for me in my time here I will never forget, and I couldn’t think of any women better fit to be someone to lean on during recovery. To Jeff, for always keeping things real, giving great advice, and being an inspiring example of success in recovery. To Toni, thank you for all the education groups on recovery, hearty laughs, compassion, strength, and hope. To Amanda, for showing me it is completely and totally possible to be happy in recovery and have fun again while in recovery. To Bill, my boyfriend and my couples counselor, for getting my relationship on a beautiful path after just about destroying it in addiction. To Lauralee, my therapist, for guiding me through this whole process, allowing me to feel safe, helping me to forgive myself, and always reminding me it is okay to make mistakes. And to John, the owner, for always saying hi to me, asking how I am, what’s new, I’ve never known another treatment center where an owner cares so much about the clients. I wouldn’t have wanted to end up anywhere else besides Capo for treatment.
Devin J.
The staff here have helped so much. Jeff Lazaro is the best. I am so grateful to know him and to have gone through capo. I went threw the program over a year ago and i am lucky enough to interact with them all the time I not only gained recovery but a family and a support system that I never had before
Daril L.
I was a patient here 27 years ago. I can’t remember all of the staffs name, except for paul weckerly. Those people were so Nice to me. They let me share my movies with everyone and sometimes gave us ice cream. They saw potential in me and eventually discharged me. They save lives here !!
Aaron P.
First and only place myself and my husband received actual help for our addiction and have been sober since for over a year and have even referred family and friends. Great place if you seriously want help for all walks of life from professionals to completely down in the dumps and can’t get out addicts.
Eugene W.
My wife and I completed the program there. It was amazing and the staff was also amazing. This place saved my life and my family.
Bree Smith
My family decided to send my sister to this program and it was absolutely amazing. The facilities are beyond clean, private and relaxing. The staff especially in the detox and Capo house are knowledgeable, compassionate, respectful, and keep the atmosphere very light and sometimes even fun. Even more awesome is that you can actually bring your dog. I love this place because they understood my sister wasn’t the only person she hurt and it put our family back together ❤️

I have never ever in my life have been in a rehab(and I’ve been to 12) that has helped me so much. Not only is the clinical staff one of the best in the country but the Operations Manager Jeff makes you his own family and goes above and beyond the call of duty to help and accommodate you for any and everything you need. Thanks to Jeff and his stay my life has changed forever. I am still clean and sober and have never been happier in my life. THANK YOU GUYS!!!

This place saved my life. From the time Jeff picked me up from the airport I knew I was finally safe. That man has gone out of his way to make sure I’ve been feeling okay mentally and physically every day. The detox house managers Katie and Josh never skipped a beat when it came down to my bad days. Jeff, Jackie, Catie, Jerry, Josh, Kent and all the others literally break their backs bending over backwards to make sure their clients have the best care possible. The counselors are top notch caring people. Thank you for saving my life.
Freddy C.
My wife went to this treatment center and even though it was hard without her since she is a stay at home mom. Jeff was wonderful getting her at the airport. I was able to rest for the first night in a long time. The counselors are so caring, the staff did everything they could to make it easier for my wife while in treatment making sure she got the care she needed. Kent and Jerry were a wonderful support and what praises couldn’t be said about Jackie the house manager for the women’s house. She did everything she could to be supportive for my wife while being away from her kids. She was there for her everyday even if it was just to cheer her up and make funny faces on her saddest days. My wife will forever be thankful to Jackie and it was hard for her to leave after almost 90 since she grew so many clothes for her. Thank you John you have a great staff including Jeff of course but I don’t think you realize what a treasure Jackie is to the women in treatment she goes out of her way and bust her tail for those women everyday
Michelle S.
Thank you so much for being a huge part of my recovery. I was a patient with you about 5 years ago and was able to finally get and stay sober. I felt like a lost cause and was having so many problems back then. My life has stabilized and is finally settled into a perfect state of peacefulness. Thank you all!
Martina C.
I went there and they wouldn’t give up on me. I didn’t finish but I still managed to stay sober. They are all caring. I give thanks most to Jackie, Jeff, and Jerry. They were the best people there to me. Sincerely Martina Cervantes

Capo by the Sea is family to me now when i first got there i was greeted with open arms. I had people that would talk with me thru the first rough couple weeks of my recovery. All the staff are some of the nicest people, I can tell they truly care about me. I was in the San Juan house for about a week but when I was feeling terrible they were always there to help me with whatever I needed. When I moved to the California house it was great the other clients were very respectful. I had a queen size bed and plenty of groceries every week and if anyone had special food requests my house manager jeff would do his best to get what we needed. Everything was very clean and friendly at the center groups really helped me understand why i was there and tools to help me with my recovery. My therapist Bill Yates was amazing he helped talk me thru so much and brought doughnuts for everyone every Tuesday the whole time i was there. By the time I had left I didn’t want to leave. It was by far the best rehab experience I’ve ever had and they helped me work through so much it was amazing to have another family!

There are not enough words to describe the gratitude I will forever hold In my heart for everything that capo by the sea and especially Jeff for the wonderful program they run. After a few weeks there my child said he felt like this one was going to be the turning point in his life.

Capo by the Sea helped save my life about five years ago. I entered the program and was helped through the detox process from alcohol by their trained staff. The staff at Capo are very professional, knowledgeable and caring. The program was fun and we had outings to the beach, wonderful food and a supportive environment in the house. They tolerated some of my crazy behavior back then and helped me get back on my feet. Thank you Capo by the Sea staff and owner!
Anthony S.
Loved Capo by the Sea, such an amazing recovery house. Amazing people who have helped me so much in my recovery can’t thank them enough for giving me a scholarship. Amazing management, amazing groups, amazing therapist all-around the best recovery I could ever ask for. They even help me with my EDD disability. What more can I ask for? Special thanks to Jeff, he’s the man!! Highly recommend this Recovery house! Five stars!

Great care and personal attention. Also loved golf therapy! As John say’s “keep the plug in the Jug!”

I went through capo and got on my feet after jumping from dozens of other programs. They helped guide me into becoming a completely different person and I can not explain how grateful I am.

Capo by the sea saved my life. I was homeless on a bus when I called the number on the website and got a hold of the owner John. He took his time and got all of mine and my girlfriend’s information. After finding out that my insurance wouldn’t cover for me to go back into treatment John assured me as long as my girlfriend and I could get to CAPO that they will work everything else out. Without the help of John, Jeff, Jacqueline, Sean, Jerry, Chadd, and Kathleen I wouldn’t be alive today. I was completely against going to California for treatment but now I am super thankful for the staff here for never giving up on me. I now have another family. I highly recommend CAPO by the Sea for anyone looking for treatment. This is the best facility I’ve been to. You go to an AA meeting every morning at 7am and go to 3 in the evening throughout the week. The only downfall of this program is not being able to work while in the program.

This place has absolutely changed my life I flew out here all the way from New England the staff here is absolutely wonderful the houses are gorgeous and the help that I received here was unlike anything I could have ever imagined I am so grateful to have made it here it’s a serious place about staying clean they’re very good about weeding out the bad apples I strongly suggest it to anybody looking to change their life as it has drastically changed mine I’m so grateful this place was founded more than 20 years ago there’s so much more that could say but I’ll end on this if you want to stay clean and if you want to change your life I strongly recommend this place be where you start your new beginnings

I was an opiate user for 25 years and was told by doctors that I could die if I ever tried to detox. I chose by the sea and that was the best decision I’ve ever made. The staff was incredibly helpful and loving and was just what I needed to recover and begin a new life. In particular Jeff, was one of the best assets and cheerleaders I had while I was there, he is truly amazing and a lifelong friend. I recommend kappa to anyone dealing with addiction, they really care and helped me through the most difficult times of my life successfully. I am eternally grateful to all at Capo

Jeff was so helpful and responded so quickly and always informed of how my daughter was doing. This center really helped my daughter and I would suggest if you’re looking for a treatment center this should be your best bet.

I went to Capo By the Sea almost two years ago after my heroin addiction brought me to places I never want to be again, and I now have a clean date of 12/27/15. I had no idea where to go and my referral agency placed me here, and I’m grateful they did. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. And luckily I was taken in and shown the way of recovery by the awesome staff. The staff will actually take the time to know their clients, and I felt like part of a family – not just a number.
Now a few things. This is a 12 step based program, which I originally did not want to do, but the staff helped introduce me to the program and to make sense of the steps that I questioned. I’m glad I decided to give it an honest try because I wouldn’t be clean today without it. Also, when making a decision to get help, it’s important to manage your expectations. Yes, Orange County is a nice area, and the house that I stayed in was a nice house a few blocks from the beach. I loved the meals we got, and we had access to entertainment and what not, BUT this is a REHAB. If you want a vacation, might I suggest the Welks resort and Spa a few miles south. Also, the staff are genuine and caring and will do everything in their power to help you. I know this when I almost left and relapsed, and Jeff stopped what he was doing and came to get me. Caitlyn was also someone I could confide in, as well as the rest of the staff. HOWEVER, everyone there can only help those who help themselves. Again, staff will go above and beyond for you, but don’t expect to do nothing but sleep and not participate in a group and what they have to offer, then expect to get something out of it. You get out what you put in.
And lastly, if you do go through a referral agency, double check what they’re telling you, as often they’re the ones who give misinformation. The staff at Capo were nothing but candid with me and Toni, the director, really helped me understand all the insurance stuff. It also doesn’t hurt to check your benefits yourself beforehand, if you’re using insurance.
Bottom line, if you want a personal experience in an intimate setting, with great staff that will do nothing but help you and make you feel welcome. Go here. It’s much better than most bigger centers that feel impersonal, and it helped me save my life.

So there I was, arriving at John Wayne Airport to meet Jeff for a two week detox and rehab at Capo. Jeff was my first contact in this whole process. A month before, I googled the facility and called expecting to leave a message but got Jeff live at 10:00 pm. That was a strong first impression. Jeff picked me up at the airport and we went directly to a doctor who performed a checkup. The doctor also wrote the scripts for all of the prescriptions I would need for my stay. We then went to the Capo house for check in. Kent checked me in, a process that takes some time and eventually I was shown my room and allowed to settle in. I was in the executive suite which was extremely comfortable and honestly more than I needed. I was later moved to a smaller room on the main floor for the last week of my stay. The Capo house was extremely comfortable. Rob is the house manager and he would prepare breakfast and dinner each day. Kent and Addie would also fill in on Rob’s days off. All three were very accomplished and I was impressed with their attention to detail from a food handling perspective. I’m in that business and I notice those things. Overall, the food was outstanding and the staff was very accommodating with special diet requests. The kitchen is set up so you can access it much like your own home 24/7, just be respectful of others and staff by keeping the area clean. You will not go hungry here. The rehab program for me was straight up AA. The owner of the facility is John, he and his staff are adamant on the importance of attending AA meetings and later obtaining a sponsor. Every patient is assigned a counselor that meets one on one regularly, mine was Bill. Bill coached me through the program and prepared me for returning to my life afterwards. Bill was a great role model of how long term success at sobriety looks like, but he always emphasized that it’s a lifelong daily struggle. The days at Capo start out early with an AA/NA meeting at the beach or the coffee shop at 7 AM. We would then arrive back for breakfast and then our first group meeting. Lunch was on your own and we would begin our second group meeting after that until 3PM or so.
I really enjoyed the group discussions. It helped me to help others with their issues and their perspectives on my issues were very enlightening. They treat all addicts equally at Capo, our discussion groups were made up of substance abusers and alcohol abusers both young and older like me. The setting fosters deep introspection and self-analysis. The leaders of our discussions were all former addicts and were all very well versed in the steps to recovery. The discussions ranged from light hearted and funny to serious and very emotional. Outside of the program there was plenty of personal time to stay in touch with family and take care of business back home. Additionally, the staff would arrange trips to the gym, beach or the store if you needed any essentials. I signed up for the golf package and that was a very helpful escape from the stress of detox. John would pick us up around 230 PM and we would get in as many holes as we could. John’s club is beautiful and features three courses. We would mix them up for variety. We played seven or eight times and I was extremely pleased with this aspect of the program. As in most things the people make the difference. John was very generous with his time and was personally involved in the progress of each of the guests at Capo. Rob, Addie and Kent took great care of me while at the Capo house. Claudio, Jackie and Jeff were always there to drive us to meetings and appointments. Bill, Kent and Will were outstanding as counselors. These people gave me my life back and I will never forget the transformational experience I had at Capo by the Sea. I highly recommend it!

Capo by the sea was my first and hopefully last rehab I will attend. If you’re looking for caring staff that know where you’re coming from and have been in your shoes, this is the place to get sober. I extended my stay there because I loved it there so much and was sad to leave. If you’re trying to get sober and remain sober while learning useful skills and have fun this is the place to do it! Their therapists are amazing at their jobs , they changed my whole outlook on life and helped me do a complete 180 during my time there. You will never find more caring and knowledgeable staff than Jeff lazzaro and all the employees than those at CAPO BY THE SEA. If you’re looking to change your life around then give CAPO BY THE SEA a call and get started.
Milly S.
Capo by the Sea has been a saving Grace for me. The staff is fantastic. Down to earth and understanding of personal situations. I am a dual diagnosis and the psychiatrist there is one of the best I’ve met with. My house manager Jackie, made my treatment there the most meaningful. Always willing to take me as well as others on special outings. She has a big heart and lots of positive advice to give. Jeff and Jerry took the time to be positive male figures that I look up to. The entire staff treats you like family. This is definitely the place to go if you’re serious about your recovery… They offer excellent councilors, therapists and psychologists. Houses are clean and gorgeous! Always able to help if you’re willing to help yourself. They are there to support you while you discover who you really are as a clean and sober human being. Thank you Capo by the Sea, for giving me what I could not get by myself.
Chelsea R.
I could not have found a better place to heal myself. Capo by the sea led me back to myself and helped me peel the layers necessary with such class and grace. The therapy I received there was the therapy I felt I had been waiting for and needed my entire life. The group therapy setting was also so very therapeutic. I love Capo and the people who work there with all my whole heart – they loved me during the toughest times in the gentlest ways but had the knowledge of how to keep me headed in the direction of recovery. The properties of this facility were high end and located in lovely communities. The freedom and choices I wasn’t stripped of while living in this facility ensured my dignity was kept intact, and I was still able to run my business remotely when I chose to. This nurturing environment brought my truth forward and saved my life. I am forever grateful for Capo by the Sea and highly recommend this place to any person who may be trying to heal from any sort of addiction.
Anthony V.
I owe this wonderful staff and helpers my head to start to recover. It started a new life for me. I have a year + and going strong. I recommend this place to anyone who is serious about living a better life if you really want it. Thank you CAPO I’ll be back to visit YOU great folks my name is Anthony V from FL I’m an alcoholic and an addict RECOVERING. THANK YOU GOD the staff at the main house is the BOMB love you Mark and Constance and many many others
Holly S.
When you don’t know where else to go for substance-abuse assistance, Capo by the Sea is a great choice. The facility is a one-stop shop in that detox and rehabilitation services are provided in-house. It’s very much an “executive level” facility, so it’s easier to get the help you need and it makes sense to do it locally.
Steve D.
I was fortunate enough to get into Capo By The Sea with the assistance of the owner John Kahal who went out of his way to make sure my visit was as painless as I could possibly imagine! The staff was well versed on how the entire program worked and always had my well being in the forefront for my entire stay at the facility. They taught me some tools that I will carry with me as life-long instruments in dealing with life on a day to day basis. The facility was beautiful with modern, state of the art, amenities and an on-site yoga instructor as well as a massage therapist. The program was well organized and balanced with a mix of group therapy, AA meetings, counseling, spiritual guidance, outdoor activities, and plenty of great food! I would highly recommend Capo By The Sea to anyone with a loved one looking for a new perspective on life and a whole new way of living.
Regards,
Steve D.

Capo by the Sea and John Kahal have saved my life more than once. I have been a chronic relapser for years after having 7 years sober. I am finally getting my life together and it is only because they have never given up on me. During my sobriety, I worked professionally with many different treatment centers. Capo provides BY FAR the most comprehensive clinical experience I have ever been a part of. I would send any member of my family to Capo by the Sea because they have truly given me my life back!
Brianna G.
Let me begin by saying I am a very proud alumni of this program. I am living, breathing proof that this program works. I came into treatment broken, lost and without a clue how I was going to recover. John and the treatment team at Capo took my hand and showed me that there was hope for me. I learned a great deal about myself, the nature of the disease, triggers, relapse and how to be useful to others who have the same struggles I do. It was here that I was introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous and for that, I am truly grateful. I didn’t stay sober my first time around. I was 21 when I got here and was extremely naive. During my relapse, John stayed connected with my mom on a regular basis to check up on my condition. He picked me up from hospitals on multiple occasions and accompanied me in court. He went above and beyond. The Capo team is my family. I wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for them. Thank you for my life and for my recovery.
